Decorous Corner: The Writing on the Wall

I had been gifted a very inspiring poster by some of my students some six years back:

Unfortunately it got frayed very badly more due to constant handling by kids than the passing years ... I was saddened.  As I did not want to completely lose the wordings, I wrote it down on our kitchen wall ... the room where we spend most of our mornings and evenings.

I used fevicryl acrylic paints.  A view from the side and from outside...

Doesn't my sagacious companion bring cheer to my kitchen!!

Inspiration - From ''Water Garden' to 'Fish Pond'

Last August as I was browsing through the net I came across an interesting post in Vidya's blog What's Your Home Story.  Her successful attempts to grow a water garden inspired me to grow one of my own.

My first task was to find a strong container and I found just what I needed at a nursery.  It was made of cement and quite wide.  I turned it upside down and painted the exterior in bright colours and the interior in white.  I placed my precious pond in a corner of our balcony and filled it with rich pond mud, planted the water lilies, and poured water. Then I waited, waited and waited ...

Finally my 'patience' was rewarded. A white bloom with a rich yellow center at last!!! And new leaves and fresh shoots too!

But alas this "thing of beauty" did not last forever!  Heavy rains in November flooded my poor pond and destroyed the water lilies.  My pond was lying discarded for a few days.

But not or long!  Within a week the water garden was converted into a 'fish pond'.  The container was lined with lovely white and green pebbles and some colourful guppies were introduced into it. The fish are so lively ... frisking, twisting, turning, hiding, peeping in and peeping out ... never still ... and such a joy to watch!

Inspiration - Black and White Mural Art

We had gone on a long trip and on our way back .... we came across a nondescript hotel.

Not very impressive but being tired and hungry we were forced to go in for lunch ... as soon as we stepped in ... just next to the entrance door I found this beautiful wall mural ... WoW!!!

The details were simply amazing ... every kitchen tool used not so long ago were depicted in the artwork ... I fell for it and can't wait to share it ....

I also loved the way the little girl is chasing the boy along the corridor and the cock is strutting proudly out of the house ...

What do you think???  And by the way ... the food too was very tasty ... yeah very true of the saying that one cannot judge what something or someone is like by looking at the exterior...

Decorous Corner - Blue sky and Yellow sun ...

As I have already mentioned, I love opening doors to discover what they reveal ... beautiful paintings, lovely furniture, colourful paints and accessories, handcrafted decors, etc. Let's open my front door and see what it has to reveal...

In the far end you can see a blue pot containing crimson anthuriums.

The heart shaped anthurium plants really fill my heart with joy ... they are also so easy to grow and need very little sun .. and though they are available in different colours the crimson ones really attract me ...

I placed my anthurium plant in the balcony which receives just the moderate morning sunlight ...

The painting in the background is made with acrylic on marble stone ... I copied this painting from http://www.kshs.org/p/online-exhibits-marijana-women-of-strawberry-hill/16498...

I love the play of the blue sky and the yellow sun ... and lovely colourful clothes swaying gently in the breeze ... I especially adore the two gossiping women in the foreground ... reminds me of this poem ...The Clothesline by Marilyn K. Walker.
A clothesline was a news forecast
To neighbors passing by.
There were no secrets you could keep
When clothes were hung to dry.
It also was a friendly link
For neighbors always knew
If company had stopped on by
To spend a night or two.
For then you'd see the fancy sheets and towels on the line;
You'd see the comp'ny tablecloths
With intricate design.

Inspiration - Doors ... an entry to ...

I love doors ... especially the lovely old worn out entrance doors ... I love the thrill of opening such doors and discovering what they have to reveal...

The other day as I was browsing over some photographs of interesting doors ... I came across the website www.terragalleria.com  which featured beautiful doors of Jodhpur Rajasthan ... I simply drooled over the combination of the beautiful indigo coloured walls the simple patterns on the doors and the brightly dressed women ... I also discovered this website http://www.doorpaintings.com/  which featured the paintings of K.R.Santhana Krishnan an artist from Tamil Nadu ... the paintings of doors were simply amazing ...

All these doors inspired me to make this painting using acrylic paint on wood ...

The traditional way of bathing babies by placing them on outstretched legs is a beautiful sight to watch ... the love and attention lavished by the mother as she massages and bathes the baby strengthens the bond between the mother and her newborn ...
